Benny’s Sports My Way: Vancouver Winter Olympics: Team USA Medal Update:

Hello sports fans, well one week done and the final week left to enjoy the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics in the Great White North. Lot’s of incredible Team USA performances like  Bode Miller winning a Gold on the Men’s Super-Combined, a Bronze in Downhill and a Silver in the Super-G and Lindsey Vonn taking the Gold in Women’s Downhill and a Bronze in the Super-G. How about Evan Lysacek taking the Gold in Men’s Figure Skating (the first Gold since Brian Boytano captured Gold in the 1988 Olympics) with a win over a very indignant Russian Yevgeny Plushenko who performed an amazing “Quad” rotational jump! Team USA still is in the lead with 7 Gold, 9 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals for a total of 26 medals. Fan favorite snowboarder Shaun White won Gold in the Men’s Half-pipe and Seth Wescott took the Gold in Men’s Snowboard Cross. Speed skater Shani Davis took Gold in the Men’s 1000m outdueling fellow American Chad Hedrick who took home a Bronze. The most decorated American Winter Olympian-speed skater Apolo Ohno (Gold, Silver and Bronze in 2006; Gold and Bronze in 2002; Silver and Bronze in 2010) is also a 2007 Dancing With The Stars champion!! And Hannah Kearney took the Gold in Women’s Moguls skiing. All in all, Team USA has rocked! Lot’s of great effort by our amazing USA team in all ...

Bennys Sports My Way: Tragedy at the Vancouver Winter Olympics

Breaking News: The 2010 Winter Olympics officially began in Vancouver. The torch was ignited over a packed stadium full of 2600 athletes representing over 80 countries in a spectacular show. However the mood was somber. Earlier in the morning, 21 year old Nodar Kumaritashvili from the Soviet Republic of  Georgia, was killed in an accident,  while practicing the singles luge. He lost control  at speeds up to 80 miles per hour.  The icy track where the luge is being performed is considered by experts as the fastest course in the world. Kumaritashvili was ranked 44th in the world in this event.   Before Kumaritashvili, Romanian star luger Violeta Stramaturaru also was in an accident on the same course and was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. Olympic officials have stopped the luge from reopening. NBA-the 2010 NBA All-Star game will be played on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at the new Dallas Cowboy Stadium. LeBron James is heading the Eastern Conference Team  and Jason Kidd (Kobe Bryant, is recovering from injuries) will be leading the team from  the Western Conference. Tip-off time is 8PM EST on TNT. Saturday fans can see the Slam-dunk competition. PGA- Tiger Woods will not play in the Match Play Championship next week in Arizona. Woods has won the event three times. NASCAR: The 2010 Daytona 500, labeled The Great American Race, featuring 43 of the worlds best drivers, will ...

Benny’s Sports My Way: Who Dat? New Orleans Saints Win The 2010 Super Bowl!!

Who dat? Dat is the New Orleans Saints-the Super Bowl Champs. Hello Benny fans and thank you South Florida for a great night of football. Who Dat?! The 44th NFL Super Bowl was really super. The New Orleans Saints, the under-dogs , went into halftime behind the Colts and came back in a big way to beat Indianapolis by a score of 31-17 before a packed Sun Life Stadium crowd. Drew Brees completed 32 passes and was named the MVP of the game! Way to go Saints!! They have a young team and could be on top for many years to come. Colts Quarterback, Peyton Manning, always the gentleman praised the Saints and said he was sorry to the Colts fans for not being able to bring back a win. Manning had an amazing game but not good enough to beat Brees and the Saints. PGA-Steve Stricker won the Northern Trust Open at Riviera, his fourth tour victory. Phil Mickelson, who had won the event the past two years was 14 shots off the winning score. PGA-Breaking News: Tiger Woods may be headed back to the tour in March. According to sources, he has been training and is ready to get back to business. Hello Masters!! Tennis-Venus and Serena Williams won the 2010  Australian Open women’s doubles title defeating Cara Black and Liezel Huber 6-4 6-3. Serena had just won her 12th Grand Slam title ...

Benny’s Sports My Way: Here Comes The 2010 Super Bowl!!!!

It’s raining in South Florida!! Hello Benny fans-this is yours truly writing to you from rainy South Florida-the site of the 2010 NFL Super Bowl! That’s right; I am here ready to report about the latest in sports. Last night, at Sun Life Stadium, the site of next Sunday’s Super Bowl also, the 2010 Pro Bowl took place. Yep-usually it’s the week after the Super Bowl and in Hawaii. The top NFC players battled the top AFC players for four quarters in a high scoring game. At the end, it was the dominating AFC beating the NFC 41-34. Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning and New Orleans Saints helmsman Drew Brees also made an appearance but did not play. It seemed that even though this game was supposed to draw lots of eager football fans, it may not have been the draw it was intended to. Anyway, it was a great game and was great to see all of the stars like Ravens Ray Lewis, Bengals Ocho Cinco and Eagles Donovan McNab. According to NFL sources, the 2011 and 2012 Pro Bowl games will be back in Honolulu. 2010 Super Bowl- Both Indianapolis and New Orleans will be practicing this week for their meeting on Sunday. It will be a wet practice week for both. We are all looking forward to a fantastic passing game from both Manning and Brees. And some ...

Benny’s Sports My Way: Where In The World Is Tiger Woods?

Happy New Year to all of my fans. Can you believe it, twenty ten! WOW!! Another great year ahead of us in the sports world. Okay, lets get started. As you all know, the 2010 Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl are coming up in a few weeks and both will be held in sunny Florida at the Sun Life Stadium. Where is that? Well, I am glad you asked. This stadium was previously known as Land Shark Stadium (for only 8 months) and for two weeks after that Dolphin Stadium (home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins), Joe Robbie Stadium (previous owner of the Dolphins before Wayne Huizenga), Pro Player Park, and Pro Player Stadium. Anyway, the Pro Bowl used to be played a week after the Super Bowl in Hawaii. This year, the NFL hopes to attract bigger crowds playing the game a week before. But you won’t see any members from the 2010 Super Bowl teams. Speaking of the Super Bowl-the teams: the NFC’s New Orleans Saints, making their first Super Bowl appearance, will battle it out with the AFC’s Indianapolis Colts. Will Peyton Manning out-duel Drew Brees to get his second ring? Or will Reggie Bush and team pull it out for the Big Easy-stay tuned? Switching gears to Golf, Tiger Woods has taken an indefinite leave from the 2010 PGA tour ...

Benny’s Sports My Way: 2009-What A Year In Sports!!

Happy holidays everyone! Here is my last column for 2009. I have decided that it will be more like a combination of my opinion and some sports highlights. After all, I’m Benny, and this is Sports My Way! So here we go: 2009 was and is a year of rants and revelations: From Andre Agassi’s drug use and lying while on the ATP tour published in his autobiography (can we all say book sales), ex-Kansas City Chiefs and current Cincinnati Bengals running back Larry Johnson ‘s rants (now you know why he lives in Ohio instead of Kansas City), tennis great Serena Williams threatening rants at a line judge at the 2009 U.S. Open, to Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams flipping the middle finger towards the Buffalo Bills with NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodall sitting next to him. Did you forget multi-gold Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps photographed smoking marijuana, and President Obama and media mogul Oprah Winfrey tried their best to get the IOC to pick Chicago for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games but they selected Brazil. Los Angeles Dodger’s Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games during the 2009 season for violating a league drug policy, and the New York Giants released wide receiver Plaxico Burress for carrying a gun in a club-Buress is currently serving a two year prison sentence. Ron Artest of the NBA Los Angeles Lakers admits to drinking ...

Benny’s Sports My Way: New York Yankees Win The 2009 World Series!!!

MLB: The New York Yankees won the 2009 Baseball World Series defeating last year’s champion Philadelphia Phillies. The Yanks won the series 4-2, winning game six in front of their fans. MVP, Japanese star, Hideki Matsui, may be looking for a new team next year. Golf: Phil Mickelson won the 2009 HSBC Champions event, held in Shanghai by one stroke over runner up Ernie Els. Tiger Woods finished five shots out of the lead. Tennis: Novak Djokovic defeated hometown favorite Roger Federer for the 2009 Swiss Indoors title held recently in Basel Switzerland. Tennis:  Shocker of the year!!!! Multi-Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi admitted in his autobiography, "Open,"  that he used “Crystal-meth” a type of dangerous drug, in 1997. He tested positive for it and then lied to the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals).  Andre-shame on you!!! What were you thinking????? Tennis: Italy won the 2009 Fed Cup held in Reggio Calabria over the USA, when Italy’s Flavia Pennetta defeated Melanie Oudin ( a quarter-finalist at the 209 U.s. Open) of the US. NFL: After week 9, The New Orleans Saints from the NFC and the Indianapolis Colts of the AFC remain undefeated. NBA:  It’s early in the season but here are the leaders: The Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. Olympics: Vancouver 2010, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics is getting ready to host ...
