Benny’s Sports My Way: Where In The World Is Tiger Woods?
Happy New Year to all of my fans. Can you believe it, twenty ten! WOW!! Another great year ahead of us in the sports world. Okay, lets get started. As you all know, the 2010 Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl are coming up in a few weeks and both will be held in sunny Florida at the Sun Life Stadium. Where is that? Well, I am glad you asked. This stadium was previously known as Land Shark Stadium (for only 8 months) and for two weeks after that Dolphin Stadium (home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins), Joe Robbie Stadium (previous owner of the Dolphins before Wayne Huizenga), Pro Player Park, and Pro Player Stadium. Anyway, the Pro Bowl used to be played a week after the Super Bowl in Hawaii. This year, the NFL hopes to attract bigger crowds playing the game a week before. But you won’t see any members from the 2010 Super Bowl teams. Speaking of the Super Bowl-the teams: the NFC’s New Orleans Saints, making their first Super Bowl appearance, will battle it out with the AFC’s Indianapolis Colts. Will Peyton Manning out-duel Drew Brees to get his second ring? Or will Reggie Bush and team pull it out for the Big Easy-stay tuned?
Switching gears to Golf, Tiger Woods has taken an indefinite leave from the 2010 PGA tour in order to get his life back on track. He has lost several sponsors including AT&T and Wheaties and had to give back his free GM cars. The 2010 PGA Tour is in trouble without Tiger. We all wish Tiger a speedy recovery.
The 2010 Winter Olympics (on NBC) will be held in Vancouver, Canada starting February 12th. Do you have your tickets yet? Here is a list of all the different sports you will be seeing: Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Cross-country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track Speed Skating, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, Snowboard and Speed Skating. Stay tuned for information on all of your favorite winter Olympic sports.
The 2010 Australian Open , the first Grand Slam event for 2010, is in progress and so far is a repeat of last year’s results. The Williams sisters are winning, Justin Henin is back in great form after a year off the tour and Sharapova was knocked out in the first round. In a shocker, last year’s champion Rafael Nadal looses in the quarterfinals to Andy Murray and Andy Roddick goes out in a five setter to Marin Cilic. Still remaining in the draw are Roger Federer, Davydenko, Tsonga, Jokovitch and Andy Murray.
NCAA Football: just for those that slept through the bowl games – Alabama beat Texas in the final game of the year to win the National Championship. USC’s Pete Carroll resigned as head Coach and accepted the head coaching job from the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. And in a musical chairs game, Tennessee’s Lane Kiffin resigned his HC job to accept USC’s top coaching spot.
Bowling: Female bowler Kelly Kulick defeated Chris Barnes to win the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) 2010 Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas , Nevada and become the first female winner on the tour.
